Frank Gattie Creative Crayon Collection...
How it all began....
Frank was working as a waiter at an Uno's in Astoria Queens, NY and had noticed they were throwing out a lot of crayons that were barely used. He started talking to some of the other waiters and they threw around some conversations about donating the crayons to a charity. So he began searching...
When Highwire received his email for donations we were very excited and thrilled that not only are these for are kits but they are a very "green" donation helping to lessen the number of crayons in the landfills while simultaneously bringing joy to many children around the world.
They started collecting crayons at his location and then he asked the regional director if he could do it at others locations. So, he invited Anna to join up in making collection boxes for the other stores. They took shoe boxes and wrapped them in coloring book pages and put a hole in the top for servers to drop crayons into the box.
Large flat rate shipping boxes are used to send the crayons to Highwire and a lot of friends are very supportive and help with the money for shipping. Although Frank is no longer at Uno's he still colllects the crayons there!
Thank you Frank and Thank you Uno's for supporting Franks generous idea!
Frank's donations have supported projects to: Ecuador, Cuba, Colombia, Costa Rica, and more to come!
